In response to the discussion about older or more challenging kits v newer, more refined kits – IPMS Patriot Scale Modelers was fortunate enough to receive a very large donation of secondhand kits from a woman whose father had passed away and left a truly gigantic stash. Her only request was that her dad’s kits go to folks who would truly appreciate them.
We’ve been distributing these kits at each meeting – while there are the occasional diamonds in the rough to be found, many of them are on the older, challenging side. I myself picked up and built a Frog Fairey Barracuda in 1/72 scale, originally tooled back in 1975. Though my build of the kit wasn’t exactly a masterpiece, it brought me a lot of joy, taught me some lessons, and I think I did the donor some justice.
