Hi Everyone! Here’s my first post in the Kotare 1/32 Bf-109K-4 Build Series. Even though this is a test shot, so far it looks like one of the best 1/32 kits I’ve ever seen.
The pics speak for themselves, but here are just a few key features I’ve noticed.
- Sprue/part attachment points are in good places that don’t impact part removal or require severe effort to clean up.
- Clever way to mold the seat with belts. Also has a bare seat pan without belts, so you have the option to choose if you want to add belts.
- Fully detailed cockpit looks like an aftermarket set. Just beautiful!
- No engine. This is a great idea since it cuts down on build time and dealing with inserts.
- Nice weld seam on the super charger intake. Please do not sand off the weld seam! It’s very prominent on the real aircraft so no need to spend time sanding the weld off.
- Restrained rivets. Thank you so much for not riveting the hell out of the model. Yes, a 109 K has rivets, but they always seem so out of scale, even in 1/32.
- However… Speaking of rivets, wait until you see the screws underneath the wings. Just awesome.
- Crystal Clear canopies with several options and configurations. Check your references for which windscreens had scoops and which didn’t; both are provided.
- Ingenious method regarding the tailwheel. Painting will be much easier than a traditional kit’s tailwheel assembly.
- Main Gear and wheels have very strong/sturdy attachment points, so the classic stance of the 109 is captured and easy to install correctly.
- Prop is nearly a perfect shape and looks fantastic with the proper thicknesses and chord.
- Dry fitting and taping the main parts together yielded a near perfect fit.
- Panel lines are very consistent and a nice depth. They should hold a wash well.
Well, that’s about it for now. Next up is painting the cockpit. I’ll have the second update out next week. Until then, enjoy the sprue shots and make sure and order one direct from Kotare.
Have a great week and feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the kit.
