I Finally completed this 1/72 Airfix TBD Devastator today. The original tooling dates back to 1969, I believe this is the 1972 boxing. I considered building the Valom kit but in the end decided to give it a go with doing what I could with the Airfix kit. I’m still trying to get my hands on the Admiral kit to see which 1/72 Devastator is the best.

The raised rivets were terrible so I sanded them all off and used a riveter to redo them. The canopy was worse so I made molds of the one piece canopy and vac formed my own. Cockpit interior is scratch built. The seats, rear twin .30 cal, engine and torpedo were printed with my Saturn 4 Ultra from stl files I found on Cults3d. Markings are from the Starfighter Decals sheet 72-173. Getting the insignia to lay down on the ribbed wings was difficult. This is intended to model LCDR John Waldron’s TBD at Midway on June 4, 1942.

Ken, thank you for sharing your work! That is some undertaking, and you did a fine job of it.
