What’s Crack-a-Lack’N Geeks! With launch of the official Modelgeeks Podcast website, I thought I would post the progress pics of the Privateer on here and help keep Frilldo moving on getting it done! So to begin this beast, I started with the Monogram 1/48 B-24J kit and I used the long OOP (but the best way to get a Privateer in 48 scale) Koster PB4Y-2 conversion kit.
I started by cutting out the forward top turret from a Monogram B-24D kit to use on the Privateer as you need to add a second top turret. So I marked and cut that out from the Monogram kit. My goal behind this build was to follow Don Fogal’s tip and use as much as the kit plastic as possible. So using some sage advice from Don, I cut the Koster parts to best fit the Monogram kit and in my opinion, that is the way to go. I made the following cuts and using 2 part epoxy, I glued the Koster parts to the monogram kit.
Another solid tip: The Monogram silver plastic will leave behind the location of where the panel lines are after you sand them off, making re-scribing a breeze with knowing where the panel lines were.
